This workshop is an encouraging space for Community Sponsorship volunteers to reflect, recharge, and learn how to care for their own wellbeing while caring for others.
Looking after yourself while supporting others
Volunteers are at the heart of Community Sponsorship. Your commitment makes a huge difference — but it can also take a toll. Without the right support, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or burnt out.
This workshop offers a space to pause, reflect, and focus on your own wellbeing. You’ll explore practical ways to manage stress, build healthy boundaries, and support each other as a group. By making wellbeing a shared priority, your group can stay strong, connected, and ready to continue the important work you do.
How will this course work?
This online Zoom session combines short videos, reflective prompts, and plenty of space for open conversation.
Who is this course for?
New volunteers who are just getting started and want to build healthy habits from the beginning
Long-standing volunteers who may be feeling the effects of burnout or emotional fatigue
Team leads or coordinators responsible for supporting and checking in with other volunteers
Groups going through a particularly intense or emotional period (e.g. arrival of a family, housing challenges)
Volunteers juggling multiple roles or commitments within the group
Anyone who wants to strengthen group dynamics and build a culture of care and mutual support
Volunteers who’ve taken a break and are returning and want to reconnect with their motivation and wellbeing
What you’ll get from this workshop:
A clearer understanding of what wellbeing really means — and why it matters when you’re supporting others
Insight into how trauma can affect people, and how it might show up in your role as a volunteer
Encouragement to build healthy habits and boundaries that help you stay grounded and avoid burnout
Practical tips on where to turn for support, and reassurance that you don’t have to do it all alone
By taking part, you’ll have the chance to:
Discover self-care strategies that actually work for you — helping you stay energised, resilient, and able to keep doing what you love
Take part in open, honest conversations about mental health, helping to break down stigma and build a stronger, more supportive volunteer community
Feel more confident knowing where to find help — for yourself or others — and when to reach out
“Taking care of my own wellbeing has made me a better volunteer — I’m more patient, more present, and I have more energy to give. It’s made all the difference.”

Research, monitoring and evaluation are essential for making evidence-based decisions that will support Community Sponsorship to grow and flourish.
Sponsoring a refugee family is a significant responsibility. We advocate for Community Sponsors to ensure that they are properly supported throughout their journey.
Our advocacy focuses on representing the views of Community Sponsors to the Home Office to support them in implementing the necessary operational changes.
We also represent the views of Community Sponsors to other key stakeholders, including Local Authorities, international organisations, the wider resettlement field, housing providers and financial institutions. We also use our voice to campaign on policies affecting refugees. We are members of the Together With Refugees coalition, campaigning for a more humane approach to people seeking protection in the UK.
